Medicare Advantage Plans
WHAT IS MEDICARE ADVANTAGE?
Plans are provided by private insurers who have been approved by Medicare. Medicare Advantage Plan members must have Medicare Parts A and B and live within the service area of the Medicare Advantage program. Individuals who have been diagnosed with End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) may not be eligible to join a Medicare Advantage Plan. Individuals who have both Medicare and Medicaid may be eligible for Dual Special Needs Medicare Advantage Plans.
Medicare Advantage open enrollment dates begin October 15 and end on December 7 — for coverage that begins on January 1 of the following year.
You may be eligible to join a Medicare Advantage plan outside this period if you qualify for a special enrollment period due to circumstances such as moving out of state or losing employer coverage. However, individuals who are eligible for Dual Special Needs Medicare Advantage Plans may enroll at almost any time.
